Error while trying code in chapter 4

I tried the code in chapter 4, I got a NPE in validator.validate(...) (Listing 4.6). You have any idea what the problem could be?

I got the same error in chapter 4. For reasons I haven't figured out yet, autowire stopped working from 4_2 to 4_3. Once I set the properties in the *servlet.xml I got it working.
