Chapter 4, Listing 4.24

Hi,
I recently read Chapter 4 and I was surprised by the above mentioned listing.
It shows an interesting scoring-implementation. I think one could reimplement the whole stuff as function-query, however, what makes me really surprised was the way it was implemented.
Where do you put in the written source-code? It does not fit into the Similarity-interface and you do not write any notice about how to make this working to try it out by oneself.
Since it does not look like an implementation of a Similarity-class of Lucene, one could guess that this is some kind of "pseudo-code", however, nothing about this was mentioned.
Maybe one could enhance Listing 4.24 for better understanding.
